About Me

I began my nursing journey at the University of Glamorgan (now USW) in September 2006. After four years supporting adults with learning disabilities, I transitioned to adult nursing, inspired by the nurses I worked with during a client's deterioration. Growing up in a deprived area I was the first in my family to pursue higher education. Entering nursing as a mature student with responsibilities was daunting. However, USW's support helped me develop the necessary skills. After qualifying, I joined the acute, critical care, and theatre team at a local health board, gaining experience in various surgical and recovery areas. During COVID-19, I supported ITU staff before becoming a practice facilitator in nurse education. This role involved optimising educational experiences for student nurses and supporting the nursing team. I then became a lecturer, first at Swansea University and now at USW, where I am the course lead for the PGCertEd (Healthcare Professionals). I am passionate about teaching and learning, focusing on equality, inclusivity, and diversity. I was the disabilities lead at Swansea and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. I am dedicated to intersectionality and preparing future healthcare professionals to support diverse communities. Currently, I teach on the BSc Nursing (pre-registration and PGDiP) and the PGCertEd programs.
