About Me

Dr Rhian Webb: Senior lecturer in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)

My main research interest, which was the focus of my PhD, focuses on native speakers’ knowledge about grammar (KAG). Sections of research findings have been presented in 13 UK and overseas conferences (2015-2019) and have been published (2016) or are in review (2020). All findings inform my undergraduate teaching.

My most research collaboration (2020-2021) is associated with studying TESOL online with Cardiff based International School, ‘Peartree Languages’. The collaboration ensures that all USW TESOL undergraduates receive enhanced education through the opportunity to observe, participate in and assist online lessons delivered to, International learners from 12 different countries on a weekly basis.

Previous collaborations include:

Member of organising (2016-2018) and scientific (2018) committee for, ‘IATEFL ReSIG-Teachers Research!’ Bahçeşehir University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Research mentor (2016) for the British Council’s Environmental Village Online (EVO), ‘TESOL exploratory research’.

External Examiner for TESOL at, University of Manchester (2012 -2016) and South Bank University (2007-2011)

My undergraduate teaching includes the first year TESOL module, ‘Language Awareness Grammar’ second year ‘Introduction to TESOL’ and ‘Observation and Peer Teaching’ and third year ‘Developing the TESOL Professional’, ‘Teaching Experience’ and dissertation supervision. All undergraduates are given the opportunity to achieve a ‘Graduate University of South Wales TESOL Certificate’, which provides access to global employment opportunities.
