About Me

James Reed is a Senior Lecturer in Renewable Energy and course leader for the MSc Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology , a member of the Sustainable Environment Research Centre at the University of South Wales, and a member of the Energy Institute. James has a MEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering, a MSc Renewable Energy Systems Technology, and a PhD in the use of microchannel heat exchanger technology for the steam reforming of LPG.

His research interests include:

Energy network modelling focusing on the role of hydrogen in low carbon energy systems

The utilisation of biohydrogen and biogas with solid oxide cells for power and syngas production.

Developing the use of Fourier transform near infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIRS) for use as an online process monitoring and control system for anaerobic treatment processes. This involves the use of multivariate statistical techniques including principle component analysis and partial least squares regression to produce integrated monitoring systems for the treatment process with a goal of optimising the process and increasing plant operational flexibility.  More information is available on my Pure profile via the link below.
