About Me

I joined USW in October 2022 and I teach in the Postgraduate Certificate of Higher Education (PGCHE). I have a humanistic approach to education as I believe that education should support inclusion and social justice, and therefore help individuals develop their values, agency, and strengths to become mindful and active members of the society. In my own practice, I focussed on LGBTQ+ issues and pastoral support to students with mental or physical health issues. I am Italian and I lived twenty years in China, where I taught at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for fourteen years. I taught French and Italian with the Language Centre, and Research Methods for Language Teachers with the MA TESOL. As a Senior Fellow of Advance Higher Education, I collaborated with the PGCHE course as a mentor, assessor and an instructor. As a researcher, I take a Critical Realist perspective, and I investigated the teaching and learning experience in higher education, paying specific attention to the local and global social mechanisms potentially shaping teacher agency and student autonomy in multicultural environments.
